Let's talk actor authenticity
Do you know what your greatest power is in the audition room?
YOU.
Everything that makes you, well, you is the most authentic thing that you can bring to the audition room. Now, that being said, there are ways to make that stand out as well!
When you slate, show your personality! I've said it time and time again, but Casting wants to get to know you and YOUR personality.
If doing a monologue, find more obscure pieces. No casting table wants to see the same 12 versions of Hamlet's "To Be or Not to Be" in an audition (unless they specifically ask for it). Find a piece that is unique and that you emotionally connect to as a human being!
Make sure your headshots reflect your personality, AND the many sides to that personality.
If you are doing a popular monologue, DON'T watch who originally did it! You want to SHOW who you ARE as an actor not imitate an A-lister.
Your greatest weapon in the audition room is YOU.
Your experiences, your story, no one can take that away from you. So use that to your advantage.
