Self Tape Tips that will help you STAND OUT
Hi Friends, as mentioned above, here are some self-tape tips that will help YOU book more roles in 2023!
Have a dedicated self-tape space: Now, it doesn't have to be fancy, but it NEEDS to be clean and professional. If you aren't sure where to start when building a self-tape space, keep in mind what your lighting, background and video quality is like. Check out some resources here if you are looking to build your own space.
Have a CLEAR "other" that you are talking to: No, this doesn't mean that you have to have someone acting on the other side of the camera, but have a focused viewpoint for your eyes to land when "talking" to the other character.
Dress the part: Now, you can look up what characters have worn on other projects in the past (especially with commercial auditions) and where something that emulates the character and brand.
Do your homework: Take a minute and do some research on the project, brand and even company that is casting the project. What are some common traits with the brand, company and project? Doing some research can show casting that you are a serious actor and you know what they are looking for.
Have a GREAT slate: As mentioned time and time again, slating gives casting a chance to get to know you as a person. So be approachable and be yourself!
Turn in the self tape ASAP: Roles are often filled very quickly. The sooner you can turn in the self tape while keeping the high quality, the better chance you will have to work on the project!
That's all for now, time to kick some booty this audition season!
